EU-hosted analytics for WordPress

Many organisations require their data to stay in the EU before they buy a tool. PureMetrix Cloud processes your analytics on Hetzner servers in the EU and connects to WordPress through the official plugin.

What EU-hosted means here

PureMetrix Cloud processes all analytics events on Hetzner servers in the European Union. Billing is handled by Stripe.

Getting started in WordPress

  1. Sign up and add your website in PureMetrix Cloud.
  2. Install the plugin and click Connect.
  3. Optional: use the same-origin /px proxy so browsers send data to your own domain first.
  4. Sign a DPA if your organisation needs one under Art. 28 GDPR.

Answers for purchasing and IT

  • Cookieless visitor counting (daily salt)
  • Processing in the EU on Hetzner
  • DPA available
  • Staff roles can be excluded
  • Subprocessors listed on the legal pages

Not a free pass

Hosting analytics in the EU does not make other US ad pixels on your site legal. Keep an honest list of all providers.

Where data is stored vs where it is sent

EU-hosted analytics (PureMetrix on Hetzner) makes purchasing talks easier when they get stuck on US cloud providers. Hosting in the EU doesn’t make unlawful processing lawful, but it removes a common objection when a buyer already relies on EU infrastructure.

Ask providers where data is received, stored and accessed by support. “EU company” without processing in the EU is a different answer from “processing in EU data centres.” Keep the DPA and the hosting region in one folder for questionnaires.

WordPress installation notes

Connect the plugin, check that tracking requests reach the EU server (or your same-origin proxy), and document which roles are excluded. Agencies should send clients Shared Links rather than emailing CSV exports when clients only need to view the dashboard.

Answers for security questionnaires

Hosting region: EU (Hetzner for PureMetrix Cloud). Cookies for visitor ID: none. Unique visitors: hashes with a daily salt. Data transfers: for any subprocessors listed in the DPA, follow your lawyer’s assessment (standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions). WordPress integration: plugin with Connect, optional same-origin proxy, Shared Links.

Give the same answers in every tender so sales and security stay consistent.

Why EU hosting matters in WordPress projects

Public authorities, healthcare-related organisations and German mid-sized companies often insist on processing in the EU. An otherwise good US analytics tool can fail the legal review. Choosing EU-hosted analytics early saves you from switching tools late in the project.

Questions about support access

Buyers ask who at the provider can see their data. Point to the PureMetrix security and privacy documentation and the DPA instead of guessing. EU hosting answers where data is stored; access control answers who can see it—serious questionnaires ask both.

Public sector and regulated industries

Expect questions about encryption, access, subprocessors and how incidents are reported. Hosting in the EU on Hetzner is necessary but not enough. Have the PureMetrix DPA and a security summary ready before the tender starts—switching providers late can cost you a project you had already won.

Write down which environments (live site and staging) send data where, including any same-origin proxy on government domains.

EU hosting vs CDN

Your WordPress CDN may deliver files worldwide while analytics processing stays in the EU. That is normal—just explain it. PureMetrix hosting on Hetzner answers the analytics question; where images and files are delivered from is a separate hosting topic.

Clarify whether support staff can see dashboards via screen sharing during a ticket—and how that access is logged—before a corporate security team asks.

If a buyer only accepts software on their own servers (on-premises), PureMetrix Cloud is not a fit—clarify that early, not halfway through a trial.

Where backups are stored

Ask whether analytics backups also stay in the EU. Claims about EU hosting should cover both live data and backups. Check the PureMetrix DPA and security documentation—not what someone said on a sales call.

Make sure your sales team doesn’t say “on-premises” when they mean “EU cloud”—buyers understand very different things.

Write down in your internal documentation what “EU-hosted” means for your setup, who maintains that description and when it was last checked, so your PureMetrix reporting matches how your team actually works.
