Cookie-free web analytics
PureMetrix counts your visitors without cookies, without building profiles and without selling any data.
To tell visitors apart for one day, we combine a few technical details of each visit – IP address, browser and your domain – with a random value that changes daily. From this we calculate a hash: a kind of fingerprint that cannot be turned back into the original data. The next day the random value is new, so yesterday's visits can no longer be linked to today's. You lose day-to-day tracking of individual people – and gain simple, privacy-friendly numbers. That fits company websites, documentation and online shops that need reliable totals, not personal profiles.
What we do not do
- No cookies or local storage on the visitor's device
- No full IP address or browser string stored once the visit has been counted and the country determined
- No sale of visitor data to advertisers
- No open-source claim – PureMetrix is a commercial, hosted service
How unique visitors are counted
hash(daily_salt + "|" + ip + "|" + user_agent + "|" + hostname) - Inputs. IP address, browser and your domain for that visit.
- Hash. Mixed with a daily random salt so it cannot be reversed.
- Reset. A new salt every 24 hours, so days do not chain together.
The random value (the “salt”) changes every 24 hours. So each visitor is deliberately counted afresh every day. Details: Privacy Policy and DPA.
