Migrate from Google Analytics 4 to PureMetrix
Replace the heavy GA4 tag with a small cookieless script, set up again the goals you check every week, and keep your statistics hosted in the EU in your team account.
What changes (and what does not)
- Changes: PureMetrix sets no cookies; events are simpler; data is stored in the EU at Hetzner
- Is not imported automatically: years of GA4 history as identical numbers—the tools count differently
- You decide: when to remove the GA tags (gtag / GTM), once PureMetrix works correctly
Migration checklist
- Create a PureMetrix account and add your domain.
- Install the script (or use WordPress / npm / Next.js / GTM). Use a proxy on your own domain if ad blockers block third-party trackers.
- Turn your most important conversions into PureMetrix goals (thank-you page URLs, custom events, purchase tracking).
- Run both tools side by side for a short time; compare trends, not exact decimals.
- Remove the GA4 tags once everyone accepts PureMetrix as the main source for your website statistics.
Expect different numbers
GA4 counts users over long periods, depends on Consent Mode and fills gaps with estimates. PureMetrix counts unique visitors per day with a hash. Lower or higher totals can both be “correct” for each tool. Read GA4 accuracy to see why matching numbers is the wrong measure of success.
Import
Bring in history via CSV import if you need baseline numbers from before PureMetrix started counting. Don’t wait for perfect history before you stop setting GA cookies for your visitors.
